About the Brand

D I R E C T V – This American direct broadcast satellite service provider is based in El Segundo, California and is a subsidiary of AT&T. Its satellite service, launched on June 17, 1994, transmits digital satellite television and audio to households in the United States, Latin America, Americas and the Caribbean.

Challenge

Support a newly instated creative team tasked with on-going projects.

Solution

Work closely with the team to develop new design formulas and techniques that can support the different types of projects that run through this department. Consisting only of a creative director and designer, their projects ranged from editorial print, presentation design and print collateral which meant a need for a streamlined design process with a great look and feel.

  • Introduce bolder and more imaginative typography.

  • Create canvases for content through diverse grids.

  • Develop a new fresh look that jump starts the creative.

Result

Bolder and inspiring creative were being produced and elevated the brand’s creative for the better. Well received within the department and upper management, the need for in-house creative grew and budgets were expanded for more staff and equipment.

Access, a magazine with TV scheduling and directories became known for its well designed covers.

 

Presentations

A major aspect of growing the department was the ability to create presentations quickly with a new fresh look. The canvas grid was developed to present any type of information form charts and graphs to entertainment spots. These would be the basis of building the department through buy-in from upper management.

The Access grid could be minimal or painted with color and imagery.
